FUEL: prayer & fasting

Powered by Podbean.com

Wednesday night was the fourth in a five part series entitled FUEL. We looked at a couple of things that can FUEL our relationship with God to a white hot level. They are prayer and fasting.

What role does prayer play in your life? Do you have a specific prayer time? A specific prayer place? Or is it more of a continual prayer. Prayer is conversation with God (here's a little secret, God doesn't care about big religious words), He just wants to hear from your heart. Take off the adult outfit and get to your inner child. When you do that, share whatever is on your heart with God.

What about fasting? Fasting is a subject that isn't discussed much within the church (especially within Baptist churches because we love food!!). Fasting is denying your flesh for the purpose of focusing on God. Fasting from food isn't the only thing you can fast from. You can fast from your ipod (what?!?!?), video games, the TV (that's be awesome), a little sleep, coffee (I dare say Starbucks), certain foods, or some kind of leisure activity that you really enjoy. The point is to deny your flesh to obtain a deeper intimacy with God. I think of Charlie Hall's song, "All we need". All we need is God...

What you read, your relationships, and getting out of your comfort zone all FUEL your relationship with God. There's just something about prayer and fasting that seriously takes our relationship with Him to another level. Like I said before, they will FUEL your relationship with God white hot! Next week we close out the FUEL series with the last element that FUELS our relationship with God... worship.

On a side note:
One of our students, Kaylee Daniels is taking a short term mission trip for the entire summer to the Philippines. you can check out her blog here: 2xborn.blogspot.com One thing I have prayed for is for God to give our students a faith that blows mine away. Giving your entire summer to share the gospel in the Philippines, wow! Last night, to end the message on prayer, we had her come down as we prayed for her. It was a special time. If you think about it her name is Kaylee, please be in prayer for her this summer.
