What a pillar of faith...

This morning I read about Peter... Wow what a pillar of faith! You remember Peter. Here are some highlights of his life found in Matthew:

  • 4:19 - Peter gets called on by Jesus to follow Him!

  • 14:28 - Peter walks on water!!!

  • 16:18 - Peter got told by Jesus that he'd be instrumental in building the church!!
  • 16:22 - Peter rebuked Jesus! (Wow Peter, bold move)
  • 17:1 - Peter got to experience the glory of God, Jesus' transfiguration!

  • 17:27 - Peter was intructed by Jesus to go fishing (without bait!) and to pull a coin out of the mouth of a fish!!

  • 26:35 - Boldly proclaims that he'd NEVER leave Jesus. He even says tht he's die for Him!

What a pillar of faith!!! Here's the next big thing in Peter's life... Three times He denied that he even knew Jesus. The last time he lost it all together (27:74). Peter cussed a group of people out! Wow, what a pillar of faith...

You have no excuse not to be used by God. Think you've screwed up and can't be used by God... think again. Look at Peter, the Apostle Peter! Yeah, he screwed up - in front of everyone. Can't you hear them... "Well if that's what it means to be a follower of Christ, then I don't want any part of it." Peter imediatly, heard the rooster crow, he remembered the words of Jesus, and wept. In other words he repented.

Here's another fact of Peter's life and it is directly linked to the conversation he had with Jesus in Matthew 16:18. At the start of the church in Acts 1-2, it was Peter who preached a sermon and saw 3,000 people get saved! Wow, what a pillar of faith!

You and I both have no excuse to think that God can't use us!
