We never did find the nut that fell off my father-n-law's chainsaw. Looking at that tree lying down in the front yard, it was bigger than we thought. The trunk was about two feet thick, a little 18 inch Poulan would have done the trick, but not like a 24 inch Stihl! So, we went and rented one. That thing was like cutting through butter with a hot knife. All that was left was the stump. We wanted to cut it as far down to the ground as possible. I found out that cutting horizontally is 10 times harder than cutting vertically, I guess because of gravity.

Looking on the front of the saw we noticed four or five sharp metal teeth. My father-n-law told me that if you drive the teeth into the trunk, it will be easier to cut. I was amazed at how those teeth pulled the saw through the tree. Now, I found out that saw was sturdy, immovable. Within a mater of minutes, I found out that my labor was not in vain. A few minutes before I was ready to quit, not sure that the saw would go through.
This post is for those who are at Promise Land, or those who are regularly attending a church. What are you currently sinking your teeth into? Student ministry? Children's ministry? Are you plugged into a small group bible study? A ministry that reaches outside the church? I'm gonna borrow Justin Locke's favorite verse...
"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." - 1 Corinthians 15:58 (esv)
If you will sink your teeth into a ministry you (The Holy Spirit) can accomplish much! Are you half heartily serving in the kingdom of God? Are you just there because you're supposed to? Is there not much passion in what you do? Paul tells us to work heartily as unto God, not man. If there's no passion, pray for it, then sink your teeth in and watch God work. You'd be amazed at the momentum God will give when we sink our teeth in and let Him work.
I was wearing my self out with that saw... until I sunk the teeth in and did it the right way! Are you wearing yourself out? Are you trying to do things in your strength? Let me encourage you to do a little introspection and evaluation. Where are you serving? Is there passion in what you do? Sink your teeth in and let God work!
