Due to Fay, our church looked like this. I HOPE and PRAY that it dries out before Wednesday!!! Church was canceled, so our family went to Celebration Church in midtown. From the parking attendants to the greeters it was a great experience. Everywhere I went I evaluated (I couldn't help it). I got to experience what it was like as a visitor.
After the second or third song I looked up and Madi was walking in along with tons of other children. I thought they had practiced a song they were going to sing for the whole church. I was wrong, all students from kindergarten to 12th grade were brought down front as the children's pastor, middle school pastor, high school pastor, and Stovall (The sr. pastor) prayed for them as they would began the school year the next day. It was quite an experience to hear pastors pray for your kid to be used by God to influence culture for Christ!
When Stovall got up to preach I quickly prayed that God would speak to me... He did, exactly what I needed to hear! Stovall shared with everyone that they were continuing in their study of Philippians - verse by verse! (There are a lot of people who criticize a church like Celebration - and probably have never been themselves. Sunday I heard the word of God broke down - "verse by verse". They also talked about their missions ministry. Their Africa missions team reported that there were 900 people in attendance the previous week at a church Celebration planted in Zimbabwe. So for the critics... they break down the word of God, and are pretty involved in missions)
Back to the message, it was exactly what I needed to hear. Here are a few highlights...- A disciple is to know God and make Him known (Or to encounter God & impact others)
- The church's greatest impact is when they are in one mind & one accord
- I can't impact others unless I am having a personal encounter with God
- The church should agree with each other - on what's important!
- Choose to impact people rather then impress people (I liked that one!)
- Humble yourself and make your life about others
Here's what his message boiled down to in one thought...
"The most important thing is to spend time encountering God so I can have an impact on others!"
