This blog is kind of long, but we had a lot happen this weekend. This past weekend 43 of us loaded up and went down to Camp Sonlight in Ocala, Florida. The first night, our students walked into a room filled with smoke from a fog machine. I spoke of a accident that was recorded happening in north Georgia along a stretch of I-75 on March 14th of 2002. With visibility at 25ft and over 100 cars involved in this collision, many people experienced devastation. What was the result of this horrific accident... fog.
We talked about a couple of things that bring fog into our life making it difficult to make a good judgment call in the area of sexual purity. We looked at 2 Samuel 11:1-5 David ignored the still small voice inside. He also ignored someone that God sent into his life to remind him that Bathsheba was married! When we ignore His voice, He loves us so much that often He'll send someone into our life to audibly warn us of future devastation!
The next morning the guys and girls were split to talk about sexual purity a little more specifically. The guys had a great discussion on taking responsibility and ownership to be sexually pure. The girls had an incredible time talking about their worth. They're princesses... children of the king! I wasn't there, but from what I heard Jenny Smith had a great message for them!
Then it happened... That afternoon we spent some time in prayer outside for the evening service. I wanted to worship God so bad, I told him that I didn't care if we didn't get to the bible study. I just wanted him to fill the room with His Spirit. He did!
As we began worshipping, God filled the room we were meeting in, students one by one, and in groups came down to the altar to get things right with God! Some prayed silently, others cried out loud. God moved in such a huge way, we didn't need a bible study... suddenly I remembered what I prayed hours earlier. It was a Thursday night camp service all over again. (For those of you who went to camp this summer, you know what I am talking about!) We had to officially end the evening, but many students and leaders stayed and continued in prayer long after.
The next morning we talked about the lies that Satan throws at us, to take our purity away. Aaron began the session by fabricating a story about one of his friends who had gotten in an accident and had no insurance. We began to take an offering for him. Just as the students were taking their money out... we told them it was bogus!
"How did that make you feel?", we asked them. You can imagine the responses: anger, disgusted, hurt... That's the way we wanted our students to feel when the devil (the father of lies - Jn 8:44) throws lies at them in order for them to let down their guard on being sexually pure. I think our students got the point!
This weekend we had a great time together! Saturday afternoon, a few people were banging some pots in the kitchen. Someone else joined in, then another, then another. We found something out, if you deprive Kevin Buckner of sleep, give him some rhythm and some pans - he becomes... Pan-Man! You'll have to watch the video to understand...
