I haven't checked email since Thursday, for me that's a long time! The last half of the week was taken up with setting up for FNL. If I never saw another paintball for the rest of my life, that would be ok with me. alright, maybe that's a little extreme, but there was paintballs everywhere! We estimated 40,000 paintballs flew through the air that night. One even exploded in my face (Thanks Buckner). I'll write more on FNL in a couple of days, I am still waiting on a few pictures.
Tonight I sat down to begin the process of checking emails and I came across this blog that a pastor in North Carolina wrote. His name is Steven Furtick, you can read it here. His point was that in our prayer life, we often pray prayers that would result in our security. I don't know about you, but the more I find security in my present and future circumstances, the less I feel the need for God... Did I just say that?!? Dude, your a pastor! True, but I am a child of God just like you. A child that learns and grows everyday. I seriously doubt you'd disagree with me in saying that the more secure we are in our circumstances the less we "feel" the need for God. Some would even say (or at least think it), "God I need you but not right now, things are going just fine." How much do you pray when things are going bad? Chances are, a little more. How much do you pray when things are going your way? A little less??? That's why Jesus said mind blowing things like, "It's hard for rich people to get into heaven" (Matthew 19:23).
This guy's blog just made me think about what I pray and what God will do. Do you think God will answer your prayer in a way that would make you feel so secure that you don't "feel" the need for Him? Maybe... sometimes God gives us exactly what we ask for. Sometimes He doesn't. Sometimes He answers our prayers not in a way that we would want, but in a way that would draw us closer to Him. Just a thought I was thinking today.
