Foundations: Makers and Breakers

This Wednesday we finished up our short series on "Foundations". Satan is always trying to attack the foundation we stand on, whether it be an emotional foundation (build on experiences) or a relational foundation (build on the truth of the Bible). He mostly does this through temptations. But a more subtle way is through burdens. Some things that we carry, we put on ourselves. Sometimes WE are our worst enemy. I told the students last night something I wanted them to remember or write down...

"If we aren't careful, the things that we carry
can carry us away from the Word."

The goal of Satan's attack is to draw us away from our foundation, The Bible! Temptations are the obvious way, burdens are more subtle. They are more stealth than a temptation because we don't even know what's going on. The burdens we bear can make us or break us, more often then not they break us down and drag us away from the foundation of truth.

There are two types of burdens: those that come from God (foundation makers) and those that come from the Devil (foundation breakers). Both can drag us down if not handled correctly, even the burdens placed on us by God to reach others. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28 that he gives rest to those carryng heavy burdens if they are brought to Him.

We dropped some burdens at the foot of a 7ft Cross last night. One thing Aaron Caulder said in his prayer really stuck out to me. He prayed that we would leave the burdens at the cross and not pick them back up again. That's something we all struggle with, giving them to Jesus, then taking them right back again.
