Election thoughts...

Here are the verses I shared at the beginning of Wednesday nights message...

Psalm 75:6-7
"For not from the east, nor from the west, Nor from the desert comes exaltation; But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another." (nas)

Romans 13:1
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities for there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (nas)

• Lets not forget that GOD put President Obama in authority over us.

• Lets not forget that God is sovereign & in control.

• Lets not forget how arrogant, judgmental, insensitive we sometimes come across as.

• Lets not forget that non-Christians are watching us ("Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don't miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out." - Colossians 4:5&6 The Msg)

Last week, Barack Obama wasn't in authority to us, today he is. That changes things for a Christian. You can DISAGREE with him, but don't DISHONOR him. If you dishonor him with your words, you are not being obedient to God.

I Peter 2:13-17
"Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, HONOR the king (or the President)."

So, are you going to freak out and push people away from Christ, or are you going to trust that God actually knows what He's doing?

Here's an idea - why don't you pray for him??

I Timothy 2:1-3
The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. (msg)
