My Day: Friday 10.17.08

I have been reading through the Minor Prophets for my bible reading. I just finished Hosea (a man in whom God told to marry a prostitute), this morning I moved on to Amos. I was soooo tired this morning. I fell asleep 2-3 times as I read... sometime you just have mornings like that. When I finally woke up... somewhere around chapter 4 I read a verse that has an, "I know what you did last summer" flair to it (Amos 4:2). Though I believe its a reference to God's judgment in future slavery, it's still pretty graphic.

We headed to the Jax Zoo with some friends today. My kids favorite thing to do is ride the carousel, Madi always likes to pick the gator... hmmm??



From there I went to Orange Park to hang out with John Huff. John has been in a nursing home for over a year now. We sat for an hour drinking some McDonald's coffee & talked about ministering to people when they are going through tough times.

Have you ever been in a situation where you don't know what to say? It's better not to just make something up (that can get real annoying and can be seen as arrogant). I like what Romans 12:15 says. Sometimes it's ok not to give a verse to someone going through hard times. Sometimes it's better just to be with them. Again - refer to Romans 12:15, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep".

After hanging out with John, I headed up to the Promise Land to set up for a middle school hang out we had tonight. Click here to see some pictures. I had a lot of fun playing basketball, throwing a football, playing Wii and eatin some good food with some cool middle schoolers tonight. At one pont some of our volunteer cooks were makin a batch of cookies... (we call them "vomit cookies"). Mmmm!! Cookies anyone???
