Waiting on God...

I'm currently in John 11 for my bible reading. I'd like to share what God showed me this morning. You know the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead - but there's something in that passage that doesn't appear to line up with the character of Jesus. It's evident that He loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus very much, yet when he heard that Laz was very sick He said this...

So although Jesus LOVED Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, He stayed where He was for the next two days. - John 11:5-6 (nlt)

Now if it had been one of our friends that we love, and we got that kind of news, we'd stop what we were doing and rush to their side. We certainly wouldn't just hang out for two extra days. Even though Mary and Martha were mad at Him, Jesus did this for a reason. An insight as to why lies in what He told His disciples. He told them that Lazarus was dead, and then He said this to them...

And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.” - John 11:15 (nlt)

Why did he stay two days before coming to console Mary and Martha? Why did it benefit the disciples that he wasn't there right away? In short, because God wants to do so much MORE in our lives that what our immediate need is right now. Does it ever seem to you like God is wasting time? Does it seam like your just looking at the clock wondering what God is doing? (I sometimes do...)

  • Does He seem distant?

  • Does He seem silent?

  • Does He seem to not care about your situation?

  • Doesn't He know that were on a time table here?

  • Does He seem to not be moving fast enough for you?

God "moves slow" sometimes in order to do greater things on our life. If He answered our prayer request immediately, He wouldn't have a chance to "come through for you" in big ways as your "problem" grew. God recently did this for Amber and I. We had a doctors bill that we were stressing over!!! Time went by... then God came through, in a big way!!! Amber twittered it this morning.

Remember that God isn't in a HURRY,

because He wants to do HUGE things in our life.

Jesus wanted to raise Laz from the dead, not just heal him. Just hang on... just hang on... and one day the light will go on and you'll see WHY God "waited an extra two days." He can see the things that we can't see. When we want to tell God, "Hurry up!". He wants to tell us, "Hang on, hang on, I've got a better plan"

It's hard to wait on God, especially when we have no clue what He's doing. We have to trust that He holds time in His hands and is sovereignly in control of all things. It's easier said than done. I'll leave you with a verse that encourages me when I get discouraged or impatient. It helps me remember that I'm not just living life, I'm in a script written by God...

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. - Psalm 139:16 (nlt)

Good stuff! One time I was waiting on God to meet a need and 5 minutes before he came through (big time) I lost it and started to whine at God. I felt so bad when the miracle showed up but I never forgot the lesson. For years afterward whenever I started to waiver, I'd think, "hang on God's answer could just be 5 minutes away". It's not always just 5 minutes but it's always coming - HE IS FAITHFUL!!
