Foundations matter! In reference to Wednesday's message on building a foundation on the bible, I ask you, "What have you been building with". I have been in the gospels for some time now, just studying how Jesus lead and interacted with people. Aside from that I began to read the Sermon on the Mount this week (Matt. 5-7). If I asked you to read it, I should as well :-)
These are a few thoughts that spoke to me:
- Matthew 5:6 - real satisfaction comes from a desire to seek what God desires.
- Matthew 5:7 - I want to show mercy to others, cause God knows I need some.
- Matthew 5:8 - If I wanna see God at work, I had better be pure. Purity paves the way for perception.
- Matthew 5:13 - I want to make people thirst for God.
- Matthew 5:46 - It's easy to love those who love us, but how is that different from anyone else. It will freak people out to love those who DON'T love you. They will know we are Christians by our love. Yes, we should love each other especially in the church - enemy or not (how can you have an enemy IN THE CHURCH?!?), but we should love those outside the church as well. God just challenged me to love those who don't reciprocate it back.
- Matthew 6:1-2 - LOL! It sounds funny to picture someone "blowing a trumpet" before they do something for God. Maybe we don't blow an actual trumpet, but we do like to let others know what we do "for God" (or for ourselves). Jesus says, enjoy you're reward, cause you won't see any of it in Heaven.
So far, that's what God has been showing me through the Sermon on the Mount. What have you been getting out of it? What kind of building material has the Lord given to you? Leave a comment and share it with the others :-)
